The restaurant's famous haddock, wrapped in a light, crispy batter, leaves everyone in awe with its flavor. The delightful addition of a curry sauce and a side of peas brings forth nostalgia for traditional fish and chip shops. Reviewers consistently mention the outstanding service, praising the friendly and attentive staff who create a welcoming atmosphere that feels like home. Many visitors also appreciate the selection of great teas available, elevating their dining experience. The vintage decor, reminiscent of a classic English chippy, completes the charming experience.
Some diners have noted that during peak times, particularly Friday evenings, the restaurant can become crowded, which may lead to longer wait times. While many enjoy the bustling atmosphere, those seeking a quieter meal may want to consider visiting at off-peak hours such as weekday afternoons. A handful of reviews mention instances where sides like mushy peas weren't warm enough. Additionally, a few diners found certain dishes, like the chicken nuggets, not up to par compared to the standout fish offerings. However, these criticisms do not mar the overall satisfaction that most customers feel after a visit.
What a fabulous little find this was, we googled the best fish and chips in Harrogate whilst we were there celebrating a birthday, and Olivers came up. The waiter was so friendly and there were very busy while we were there. The fish and chips were very tasty along with our sides of peas and curry. Definitely recommend them
We found Olivers fish and chip restaurant looking on Google search. We went out for an evening meal 😋 I really enjoyed it I had spam fritters an old fashioned meal to some my wife had fish and chips We also had tea for two just lovely the lady behind the counter was hard working keeping everything going I must say she was really nice 🙂 anyway I recommend them if you're in the area if you want a restaurant with good food and good evening out Ho my chip butty on the side 😊 mmmmm
Visited Oliver’s last year for the first time when we took my Aunty for a day out when visiting her from Nottingham & was very impressed then. We have been again today (01.08.2025), the fish & chips (haddock & cod) were the best we’ve eaten - everything perfect at reasonable prices too. The staff are a credit to Oliver’s- helpful, professional & friendly. Would certainly recommend this restaurant it’s decor & cleanliness is good, they also have a take-away shop across the road.
Went for tea here this evening after a walk round nearby Valley Gardens. This is a proper old school traditional fish & chips restaurant. The lady serving us was absolutely lovely and the food amazing. My son had a chicken& mushroom pie, my mum scampi and I had spam fritters and we all really enjoyed our meals. The chips were perfect and the batter on my spam fritters was gorgeous, so crispy and light. We didn't have time to stay longer or we'd have had pudding but we will definitely be back to try out the crumbles. Definitely a 5*. Thanks for a lovely meal.
One of the best fish and chips we have ever had. Great prices and lovely old school atmosphere. The lady serving was also really lovely and made us feel very welcome. Would love to come back here again and would really recommend.
One of the best take-away fish and chips I've ever had apart from some seaside towns.
Nice fish and chips restaurant. The two ladies who served us were nice, especially the lady who took our orders. They also give you proper heinz ketchup. The haddock was nice, the batter was light, crispy and tasty. We totally enjoyed our meal. I had the regular fish and chips with mushy peas, and a slice of bread/butter, which was more than enough for me.
Definitely try the classic Fish and Chips, along with their Wholetail Scampi & Chips. For a lighter option, the Battered Calamari is popular. Don't miss out on the desserts, especially the Chocolate Fudge Cake.
